Dog Show Superintendents Association Holds Annual Meeting

(GREENSBORO, NC…)The Dog Show Superintendent’s Association (DSSA) annual meeting was held December 5, 2012 at the American Kennel Club’s headquarters in Raleigh, NC. The following members were present: President Bob Christiansen from MB-F; Secretary-Treasurer Sharon DelaBarre from BaRay Event Services; Ken Sleeper, Ginger Sleeper from Roy Jones Dog Shows; Tim James from Onofrio; Ed Smizer, Kristie Shiller and Kathy Berkheimer from Rau Dog Shows; Jack Bradshaw from Bradshaw Dog Shows; Dorie Crowe and Fred Lyman from MBF and Foy Trent from Foy Trent Dog Shows. Alan Slay and Bobby Birdsong represented the American Kennel Club.
In attendance from the American Kennel Club were Dennis Sprung (via videoconference), President; Alan Slay, Director Event Programs; Bobby Birdsong, Director Event Operations; Connie Pearcy, Chief Information Officer; John Lyons, Chief Operating Officer through 1/4/13 and Daryl G. Hendricks effective 1/5/13; Peter Scott and Terane Williams, IT Staff.
Bobby Birdsong conducted the AKC’s portion of the agenda and gave the group updates on several AKC/Superintendent topics including the role of AKC Field Representatives, operational aspects of the new Owner Handler Series, management and restrictions of multiple special attraction groups, pending rule changes, club Disaster & Emergency Plans, regulations applying to service dogs on show grounds, parameters for Reserve Major (3 points) at National Specialties,
During the business portion of the DSSA Annual meeting, the following officers were elected for 2011: President, Bob Christiansen, MB-F; Secretary/Treasurer, Sharon DelaBarre, BaRay Event Services. Tim James was elected for a new three-year term to the Executive Committee.
Formed in 2002, the Dog Show Superintendents Association represents professional AKC licensed superintendents in all important matters impacting superintendents and the Dog Fancy. The DSSA is a group of Professional Superintendents that represents well over 100 years of experience in providing support services to the AKC, show giving clubs and dog show exhibitors.
