Justice Served: Moreauville, LA, Vicious Dog Ordinance Repealed!

AKC Press Release

Yesterday, officials with the Village of Moreauville, Louisiana, repealed their recently-enacted vicious breed ban. The law had classified Rottweilers and “pit bulls” as vicious, and required owners to surrender their dogs to local authorities for “disposition” or to move their dogs outside of the town. Further, officials had previously approved the use of tranquilizer rifles to subdue targeted dogs.

News about pending enforcement of the law, which had been scheduled to begin on December 1, garnered incredible negative reaction from around the world. In response, the Village conducted an emergency Council meeting to discuss the ordinance, which resulted in repeal of the law. Mayor Timmy Lemoine has indicated that the Village will now pursue a law that is similar to Louisiana’s state-level breed-neutral dangerous dog law.

The American Kennel Club congratulates the owners of targeted dogs in Moreauville who stood up to defend their dogs, protect their rights, and prevent a grave injustice from occurring.
