The Perfect Gift: Books for the Holidays
It is that time of the year. We buy gifts for family and friends. We go to parties with gift exchanges. And who doesn’t buy a gift for themselves amidst all the other shopping. Three relatively new books offer good choices for the dog lovers on your list.
The Dogist by Elias Weiss Friedman
This book is delightful and an excellent choice for anyone who loves dogs. The collection of photographs has purebred dogs, purpose-bred dogs and random-bred dogs. It features dogs competing, resting, and being loved. It includes serious dogs, funny dogs and hard-working dogs. It is a photographic celebration of our universal love for man’s best friend.
Dog Tricks by Deb and Kate Eldredge
This is a great, fun book for people who enjoy activities with their dogs. It is exceptionally well illustrated with gorgeous pictures. It has step-by-step instructions detailed enough for someone with no dog training experience. An added bonus for those of us deep into dog sports is that many of the tricks double as foundation work for obedience, rally and/or agility work. This is a book that will inspire humans and dogs to join forces for entertainment and fun.
Canine Reproduction and Neonatology by Marthina L. Greer DVM JD
This book is the ultimate resource for breeders and general veterinarians on canine reproduction. There are a host of books geared for breeders on the market. Some of them were excellent books in their time, but the science of reproduction has made tremendous strides, leaving these texts lacking in important information. Some of them contain information that is just wrong and dangerous. This book covers canine reproduction completely and accurately. Written by one of top repro vets in the country, it is must-have for any serious breeder, even if it is the one you end up buying for yourself!
