Table Talk – November 10, 2021

Woofstock 2021 is a wrap!  I have returned from Vallejo, California where the annual celebration of Peace, Love and Dogs took place over four days. As many of you know, Woofstock is normally held in June, and I think the cooler temperatures challenged some of the “hippie wear” we normally see!

Fanciers, however, would not be intimidated by a different season and slightly cooler temperatures, and they enjoyed 4 great days of Grooviness. Those that have not experienced the build of this show have no idea how hard the club volunteers work to transform the Vallejo Fairgrounds into one big hippie celebration. The energy was amazing, and a good time was had by all. Woofstock will return to its regularly scheduled dates in June of 2022. Next year I do not believe there will be shows the same weekend in Southern California, so I expect the entry to be even bigger. If you have not had the opportunity to attend this cluster, you must put it on your bucket list!!

I ran into a group of ladies from the Midwest there who were doing just that! Several Shar-Pei fanciers travelled to northern California dressed to the nines in their hippie wear to experience their first Woofstock. What a great idea for a girls’ weekend trip!! These ladies came from Illinois, Wisconsin, and even Canada to support their fellow Shar-Pei fanciers and enjoy the fun weekend.

I think we are all guilty of taking our ability to run left-handed circles with our canine companions for granted. If you have ever been injured or become ill before an important breed or group competition, you know what I am talking about! While we all enjoy that special win, ribbon, and nod from that judge we respect, I believe the most important thing is the competition that brought us that win. My message here? Cherish every time in the ring with your dog. Be happy you are able to show that dog and enjoy that special time together. On that note, a big shout-out to Lisa Miller who continues to fight for what she loves. She showed her Foxhound in the group herself last weekend. What was once a part of her routine, took perseverance and strength on her part, as she would not let the side-effects from chemotherapy stop her from showing her dog!!!!  Keep up the great work, Lisa!  You have a huge village behind you, and we are all so very proud of you.

Just a reminder that we should all have patience with that exhibitor who may be experiencing a physical challenge yet is still trying to exhibit their own dog. While some fanciers prefer to watch from the sidelines, many enjoy being able to show their own dog as it is very important to them.

Healing thoughts to show photographer Ken O’Brien who is under the weather and unable to work due to an infected bite in his leg. Ken has asked that those waiting for photographs have patience. He will process the photographs as soon as he can. Individuals who pre-paid for photographs will receive a refund. If you are looking for a photo from Ken, please send him an email at obrienphotography@att.net. We hope you feel better soon!!!

CJ Favre’s wife, Lisa, has been in and out of the hospital recently and could use our support. CJ thanks those that have reached out with words of support, and to check on them. Get well soon, Lisa! We need you to keep CJ in line!

Clint Livingston was released from the Ocala hospital where he was in ICU due to a blood clot and pulmonary embolism. Take it easy, Clint. Don’t rush it. We look forward to having you back as soon as you are able.

Big congratulations to Michael Faulkner’s better half, Michael Rawlings, who was recertified as a lifeguard at the age of 61. Anyone who has taken the lifeguard test knows that it is challenging for a 20-something person!!

Happy Anniversary to Dylan Kipp Keith and Chris Keith and congratulations on the purchase of your new rig! What a great anniversary present to give from you to you!  May your journey together continue to be filled with love and happiness.

Fanciers celebrating birthdays this week are:  Jim Noe, Ernie Conti, Linda Hurlebaus, Tom Martenson, Kenny Cregg, Rex Linn, Bill Hempel, Alyssa Beutler, Deborah Caywood, John McCartney and Rob Skibinski. Here’s hoping you all have a great day with friends and family.

It is hard to believe, but we are working on our Orlando Table Talk Live broadcast! Please be sure to reach out to me with stories that you think would be interesting to the fancy. Let’s share them during the cluster in Orlando!!

Be safe in your travels and please consider volunteering at your local shows. Clubs are still in dire need of ring stewards!!!!

I look forward to seeing you all soon.  Until next time…
