It was amazing to return to the West Coast for Woofstock 2023. Once you attend it, you’ll understand why Woofstock is the second largest dog show in California–with the largest being Palm Springs, another of my favorite shows. Organizing a dog show of this magnitude requires an incredible amount of work; and that comes before you add the special attractions, groovy decorations, exhibitor hospitality, etc. In my humble opinion, having a fun theme like the one at Woofstock creates an ambiance that is second to none. It fosters camaraderie and sportsmanship, and it’s just plain fun! Attending this show should be on everyone’s bucket list! The cool weather this year was perfect for a dog show. Those with coated dogs may have had a great deal of brushing to do as we had a decent amount of wind. Still, I did not hear any complaints!
I had a wonderful time talking to the team behind the Owner-Handled Lowchen that was Reserve Best In Show on Thursday. Some of them drove from Philadelphia for the show! Lowchen had a large entry since their National Specialty was held in conjunction with Woofstock, and these reasonably new exhibitors took the trip! They had a great week, a great time, and I saw them Sunday before they left to make the 5-day trip home! There were no regrets from anyone about taking part in this adventure! These lovely folks were among many that drove hundreds or thousands of miles with their canine hippies to experience four days of peace, love, and paws!
Thank you to the hard-working team that dedicates so much time and effort to put on a spectacular event. Congratulations on a job well done…again!
It’s cliché but true, life can change in an instant. Our thoughts and prayers are with Kate and Mike Berry following Mike’s massive heart attack. The dog community has once again stepped up to show support and be there for Kate and Aiden at this most difficult time. Mike had a couple of surgeries this week and hopefully, we will have a good report soon. There is a GoFundMe page established for those who would like to donate to help this family. Healing thoughts to Mike, Kate and Aiden at this most challenging time.
Well wishes to Jackie Stacy as she recovers from brain surgery. Hang in there, my friend, you’ve got this! May your recovery be smooth and painless.
We have another athlete among us, my friends!!! Polly Smith did a 5K walk/run with Michael Faulkner. Way to go, Polly!!!
Cindy Vogels, John Ramirez, Richard Powell and Tabatha Bettis were enjoying great Mexican hospitality and sightseeing as part of their judging trip to Puebla, Mexico. It looks like everyone had a great time!
Bruce Schwartz was in Korea judging. He also had some time for sightseeing and playing tourist. Bruce is always the explorer! I look forward to hearing the details when our paths cross!
Paul Clas and Chrystal Murray are enjoying a “childless” trip to France, and it looks simply divine! I cannot look at the updates without wine and food envy! Enjoy your trip, my friends.
Entries for stop one of the Texas Marathon close today. To all of my dog family who have much more stamina than I do and are able to stay the course for the entire circuit: PACE YOURSELVES and be careful. I’ll see you toward the end of the line in Houston!
We have several fanciers who have celebrated wedding anniversaries recently: Chip and Lorraine Rainwater, Lesli and Danny Smith, Eva and Mark Hansen, Gail Miller Bisher and Mark Bisher, and Correy and Sarah Krickeberg. May you all feel as much love on this next trip around the sun as you did on your last!
Fanciers celebrating birthdays this week are: Patti Neale, Ryan Horvath, Camille Baker, Susan Bradshaw MacLyman, Erin Kerfoot, Ray Stevens and Patty Haines. Have a special day and celebrate in style!
My advice for this week: If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be!
Be safe out there my friends. Don’t forget to be kind, lend a hand, and give that extra time to a new exhibitor in need! I’ll see you soon down the road. Until next time…
