Table Talk – February 21, 2018

It seems the majority of those attending Westminster could not avoid an illness that seems to plague them every year. It’s what I will call the “Westminster Crud”. I hope that all my friends are taking care of themselves and getting the necessary rest to recoup from this nasty bug. If you are under the weather, please stay home and get well. So far, I have been fortunate (knock on wood), and have remained in good health.

Reports from Oregon confirm occurrences of the canine flu. It is so important to keep any dog with symptoms home from shows to try to avoid another outbreak. Oregon is the only state I have heard reporting the flu at this time. I hope it stops there.

The cluster in Colorado following Westminster has a unique format. They hold two shows on Friday and Saturday (they run half of each show on Friday with the corresponding groups, then the other half on Saturday along with BIS for both shows on Saturday), a show on Sunday and a show on Monday. This is the second year they have run their shows with this format. I have not heard how it went this year. I’d be curious to hear from those who attended regarding your thoughts on this unique format.

I am heading to the Beverly Hills dog shows next week: These shows will be tape delayed and scheduled to air on USA on Easter. Stay tuned for more information.

The National Dog Show in Philadelphia that aired on Thanksgiving Day was viewed by over 30 million viewers!! What great outreach for our sport.

We are making plans for our next Table Talk Live! event which will be at the Louisville Cluster March 14-18. We are excited to bring you not only live segments, but also to expand on our taped, informative segments. Be sure to visit our website and Facebook page during the cluster to see what’s happening while it’s happening. We will continue to post more of our Table Talk Live! videos on the website, so make sure to check back frequently so you don’t miss a single segment!

As has been the case for the last several years, there will be an Advanced Judges Institute put on by the American Dog Show Judges Association in conjunction with the Louisville cluster. For more information, please contact Robert Ennis at Rennis57@verizon.net.

Free reserved grooming for the Louisville cluster closes on February 28th! Check the premium list for the reservation form and get it in to Nina Fetter asap!

The AKC field staff is having a pow-wow in North Carolina this week. Here’s hoping they have a productive meeting!

Professional Handler and Labrador fancier Erin Hall continues to fight kidney disease. She is very close to needing dialysis and is in need of a kidney transplant. Anyone who would like information regarding blood type, etc. should contact Erin via Facebook Messenger.

Handler Chris Ann Moore and her husband, Ronnie, are on a well-deserved holiday in the Cayman Islands. Enjoy guys!

Happy 50th Anniversary to Tony and Sheila DiNardo! May you two lovebirds have many more years of health and happiness.

Celebrating birthdays this week are: Dennis Brown, Susanna Bjornsson, Kate Berry, Joey Alarcon, Tray Pittman, Ed Fojtik, Jennifer Holmberg-Baggenstos and Rindi Gaudet. May each of you enjoy your special day and have many more happy birthdays.

Wherever your travels take you this week, please be safe, and stay healthy!!! Until next time….
