Table Talk • December 31, 2025

Happy New Year to one and all!  As we begin this new year, I want to express my gratitude to everyone who has participated in Table Talk since it began.  I look forward to 2026, and the opportunity to continue our dialog about things that interest those who are passionate about the sport of purebred dogs.  I encourage you to reach out to me with ideas about topics that might interest our audience.

So, here’s to 2026! May this new year be filled with growth, compassion and new opportunities to lift each other up!  I hope every one of you takes some time to share your wisdom and kindness with fellow fanciers.

As we embark upon the new year, I’d like to share some great advice from our Publisher’s comments this month about the psychology of winning and how to win the ties:

Always try to be a good sport.  Do your best to take your ribbon, no matter what the colorm and say Thank You!  If you see that judge later, or another time, tell them you love them – DON’T say, “Why did you beat my great dog?”  When in a tough line-up for Best In Show, you want that judge to think you have always been a good sport, win or lose.  How many exhibitors understand that the way they lose may well affect how they win?”

If you would like to read the entire column, here is the link: https://caninechronicle.com/current-articles/from-the-publisher-70/ .

Heads up to those attending the Tallmadge, Ohio shows this coming weekend.  There is an error in the premium list.  The cluster is only two days this year and exhibitors will not have access to the building until Friday, January 2nd.

Our friends at Take the Lead want to remind the fancy that support is available for those facing illness, environmental crisis, and other emergencies.  Learn how Take The Lead can help you at www.takethelead.org.  And of course, tax deductible donations to this worthy cause are always welcome!

Rodrigo Turen and Jordan Olivera Turen, and Jorge and Susie Olivera, along with family and friends had the formal celebration of Jordan and Rodrigo’s wedding during the break.  Best wishes to these two lovebirds. We hope your life is filled with love, laughter and happiness!

Healing thoughts to Marty Glover who underwent cancer surgery recently.  Best wishes to you for a full recovery.  We hope to see you at a show soon!

Here is some information for all of those lucky fanciers that will be joining us at the beautiful Kennel Club of Palm Springs shows at the Empire Polo Grounds in Indio, California this week:  There is an error in the information contained in the parking confirmations that were sent out. There will be no parking available on Wednesday.  Parking is scheduled to open at 3 PM, or when released by the grounds crew.  Grooming spaces and Bring Your Own Canopy assignments can be found on kennelclubofpalmsprings.com.

Please remember that time limits will be strictly enforced at unloading zones. Your vehicle will be towed!  Let us all help make unloading as smooth as possible.  Please be kind to The Crew, and all of the club volunteers.

On Saturday night at Palm Springs–after Best In Show–friends, colleagues, protégés, and longtime admirers will gather to roast the one and only “Master”, “Mr. Doberman”, and the undisputed “GOAT”, Andy Linton.  The evening will be hosted by emcee Bill McFadden. Bill will make sure this event is entertaining, and just barely respectful, as a proper roast should be! Friends will share stories about Andy and poke fun at him, too! Food and drinks will be provided, so come hungry, thirsty, and ready to laugh.  Please RSVP to Carley Simpson via Facebook Messenger. Be sure to include the number of people who will be attending this event.  In an effort to make the event even bigger and better, donations are also welcome!  A contribution link can be found at https://givebutter.com/yKxQ1M.

Happy Anniversary to Rob and Erin Hall, and Amanda Giles and Daniel Martin.  May you lovebirds enjoy many more years of happiness, prosperity, and blue ribbons!

Fanciers celebrating birthdays this week include Debbie Davenport, Andrea Glassford, Melanie Steele, Jason McIlwaine, Lisa Arnett, Stephanie Buehler, Bonnie Threlfall, Joseph Vergnetti, Sicily Coniglio, Deb Shindle and Mary Miller.  May the year ahead be everything you hope for and so much more.

Remember, my friends:  Every heartbeat we’re given is a chance to succeed.  Never regret a day in your life.  Good days give happiness, bad days give experience, worst days give lessons, and the best days give memories.

I wish everyone a happy, healthy and inspiring new year.  Be safe in your travels, and I look forward to seeing you in the new year!  Until next time…
