I don’t know about you, but as a purebred dog enthusiast, I continue to be frustrated by the “doodle” craze. I am equally frustrated and offended by the “fad colors” that many backyard breeders continue to produce. When I see “pet people” with their silver labradors, merle French Bulldogs, etc. I want to shout from the rooftop, “You really don’t have a purebred dog!” Sadly, most of the pet community does not understand or accept that fact. All we can do is try to kindly educate them.
The Labrador Retriever Club recently had the ‘silver’ color option removed from the AKC registration form. While the registration form indicated that the silver color was a disqualification for conformation, the club felt strongly that the color should not be endorsed. Kudos to the LRC Board and the AKC for working together to try to resolve this problem.
The American Kennel Club has revised the Judge’s Approval process to allow judges to appeal the denial of a request to advance beyond two groups. Prior to this change, if a judge was denied the ability to apply for more than two groups, that decision was final and there was no way to appeal the decision. The revision is effective November 12, 2025.
In April 2024, the AKC suspended a judge due to a complaint filed by a host hotel where the show’s judge stayed. This suspension was appealed. The final hearing has been conducted, and the trial board unanimously found in favor of the judge. The AKC had 30 days to appeal that decision, but no appeal was filed, so this issue is now closed.
The Cypress Creek Kennel Club in Texas offered $1,000 scholarships for each Best Junior at their cluster. If you were one of these lucky individuals, or know one of them, there is paperwork that needs to be completed to receive the scholarship. The forms must be received within 90 days of the end of the cluster! Please pass the word to juniors that may have won Best Junior at this cluster.
I look forward to seeing everyone in Orlando! Please be sure to stop by the Canine Chronicle set-up to share your story with us, so we can consider it for broadcast on Table Talk Live.
Also, remember it is a long week, and there is a lot of ground to cover. Enjoy the experience and the great competition.
Be kind to all of those that work so hard to put this huge cluster together. A thank you to volunteers and the men in orange will go a long way! Best of luck, and may the week be everything you hoped for and more.
Fanciers celebrating birthdays this week include Jordan Confer, Rachel Adams, M’Kayla Stahr, Judy King, Nancy Fisk, Jocelyn Mullins, Paul Catterson, Luke Ehricht, Cheryl Krown, and Chris Millman. May your birthday celebration be one to remember.
Please remember: It is hard to beat a person who never gives up.
Be safe in your travels, my friends. I look forward to spending a great week with those that will be in Orlando! If you cannot make it, we will have a lot of good coverage for you to enjoy. Until next time…
