Social Media has definitely had an impact on our sport, friendships, and overall relationships. While this form of communication has increased awareness for great causes, improved our ability to communicate and share achievements, helped keep the fancy updated regarding shows and–one of my favorites–reunite lost pets with their families, it also has the potential to be toxic. I often say I wish I did not know the political views of everyone on my radar!
Of great concern to me is the casual attitude of many who make posts on Facebook without fact checking. It is my most sincere hope that everyone learned a very tough lesson this past week when an individual posted the photograph of one of our most respected fanciers accusing him, inaccurately, of inappropriate behavior. While the individual immediately posted an apology, the damage is done. You might say she made a mistake and apologized. This, in my opinion, is still not acceptable, and I hope that each and every one of us learn from this horrific mistake. Check your facts before you post anything, especially libelous claims presented as facts. This goes for information about shows, information about people, information about dogs, etc.! Not all conversations are appropriate for social media. If we all try to keep our feeds a positive, happy place, I think we will be better off.
This past weekend was a busy one! With clusters in Wyoming, Ohio, Oklahoma, and Iowa, the sport of purebred dogs was in high gear! All I can say is, YEA FOR US! The Friendship Cluster in Smithfield, Ohio dealt with a bit of rough weather and lost show tents and many exhibitor’s EZ-Ups. With a 1.5 hour delay the show was underway, finishing under the lights as there was no catch-up. Everyone was still thankful to be at the show doing what they love to do. A little weather never stopped us before, and did not this past weekend either!
Many fanciers will be heading to Utah where there are three weekends of shows beginning this weekend. Please be careful, my friends. Utah is predicted to have temperatures in the low 100s this weekend!!!!
Despite rumors that the Tampa, Florida Fairgrounds was shut down, the show is still scheduled as planned! The shows are scheduled for September 23rd -27th at the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa.
I am thrilled for our friend Cassie Clark who will be taking the next step with her fantastic catering business, the Cozy Kitchen, as she moves to Ohio to open a restaurant! The Cozy Kitchen is coming to Marietta, Ohio!!!!! All fanciers should make it a point to stop in while driving through! I am anxious to visit. West Coasters will miss her dearly. Not only has she been a joy to be around at the shows, but her catered lunches, etc. have been amazing! Good luck, Cassie! All the best to you! I cannot wait to visit your restaurant!
I was sorry to hear of the passing of Mary Norton’s father following an extended illness. We are all thinking of you, your mom and your family.
Many fanciers are celebrating wedding anniversaries this week!!! Pam and Bob Lambie, George and Linda Marquis, Andrew and Amy Green, and Tim and Megan Terella are all celebrating anniversaries. Happy Anniversary to all of you! May you enjoy many more years of love and happiness!
