It’s hard to believe that the 4th of July weekend is over!!  I enjoyed spending the holiday weekend at home this year. I hope everyone had a chance to spend some time with family, friends and your four-legged companions!  I am quite fortunate that my canine crew is not upset by fireworks, but we stayed home with the TV on just to be on the safe side!

The Oklahoma/Texas march is in full swing with the first cluster in the books.  Congratulations to all the volunteers involved with the Summer Canine Olympics!  All who attended had terrific things to say about the cluster that was well-run with great attention to detail.  Exhibitors greatly appreciated the golf cart shuttles, and there were two hands-on junior handling clinics that were well-attended by instructors and those who were seeking tips and training in their quest to become better handlers.  The Southern Handler’s Charity League did a fantastic job with the clinics and the JEC Junior Scholarship competition that was judged by professional handlers Linda Pitts, and Ellen and Mathew Perry. Congratulations to junior Emma Gallaway on her 1st place win!  The march continues this week in Dallas, Texas.  Best of luck to all and don’t forget to pace yourselves!!!

Linda Pitts, Jody Garcini and Bill McFadden were judges at the recent Atlanta Grooming Expo.  It is great to see members of the fancy share their knowledge and expertise outside of AKC events!

It has been a dream of Javi Farias–who is the son of Esteban and Jen Farias–to show a dog. Well, this past weekend he did just that with the help of his mom.  Javi has to be one of the most determined kids that I have ever met!  Congratulations Javi, and congratulations to Esteban and Jen for your dedication.  Everyone that had the opportunity to watch was grinning from ear to ear.  This, my friends, is what our sport is all about!

With the help of several fanciers, Wendy Bettis has been relocated to the UCLA center for pancreatic disease for treatment.  The GoFundMe campaign has raised over $50,000 with the total continuing to climb.  It warms my heart to be part of a community that pulls together to help a fellow fancier in their time of need.  Everyone should be so very proud of our those in our sport! Wendy and her family continue to be in our thoughts and prayers as she fights this horrible disease.

The temperatures in Northern California for this coming weekend’s shows in Lodi are expected to exceed 100 degrees.  The cluster volunteers have announced measures to try to keep exhibitors and dogs as comfortable as possible and have also declared the shows to be casual dress!  To all those attending these shows this weekend, please be careful and be sure your generators and temperature monitors are working!

Congratulations to Tammy and Greg Bohlke on the birth of your granddaughter!!!  If you must have your weekend away cut short, there is no better reason!  Enjoy the new arrival, my friends!

Tiffany and Shea Skinner spent a few days in Las Vegas celebrating their wedding anniversary.  Happy anniversary, my friends!  May you have many more happy, healthy years together.  Also celebrating their anniversary this week is Gary and Susan Allison who were married on the beach at Ventura, California during the Ventura cluster just a few years ago.  Happy anniversary, you guys!

Celebrating birthdays this week are:  Laura King, Christian Rutten, Toshi Omura, Ron Spritzer, Bob Slay, Jamie Larkman, Jim Augustus, Tom Pincus, Dan Buchwald and Bob Shreve.  I hope each of you enjoys your birthday with family and friends!

Be safe out there my friends!  Remember to hydrate and keep those dogs hydrated as well.  May your days be filled with many big ribbons and majors, and your evenings filled with quality time with family and friends.

I look forward to seeing many of you in Houston in a couple weeks.  Wherever your schedule takes you, be careful and be kind to those around you.  I’ll see you soon!  Until next time…
