Those of us who have been fortunate enough to be a part of the sport of purebred dogs are also blessed with many fond memories. Some memories are more “vivid” than others. One of these vivid memories for me comes from one of my first dog shows. I was so novice! I really didn’t know many people, and I was trying to learn. I arrived early and watched handlers that I thought were successful. I also used my time to watch the judges. On this day, I watched a man dance in the middle of the ring while he was judging. He had the biggest smile on his face, and it was apparent he was having the time of his life. The judge was Joe Gregory. I believe every time I saw Joe from that day forward, he was always smiling, always happy to be there. At 94 years young, Joe has passed away. He leaves the fancy with such great memories. Memories of a man who loved our sport and made us smile. Thanks for the memories, Joe!

The Kennel Club of Beverly Hills is going to look a bit different this year. Malibu Kennel Club is joining the party and their shows will be held Wednesday and Thursday March 2nd and 3rd. Great Western will once again be joining the cluster on Friday, March 4th and Beverly Hills will be held Saturday and Sunday March 5th and 6th.  Due to conflicts with the Winter Olympics and COVID-related issues, NBC will not be filming this year. The plan is for their return in 2023.  While it is unfortunate that the sport loses this opportunity for publicity and outreach, the silver lining is there will be more room for dogs and exhibitors! Those who attended the Mission Circuit at the Fairplex over the last several years will feel at home with bigger rings and a conventional group ring! While grooming space was a concern before, worry no more, my friends! There will be an additional building for grooming.

I hear the Mission Circuit is a go for 2022! Same weekend, different venue. This year’s circuit will be May 26 – 30th at the San Bernardino Sports Complex. This is a great opportunity to check out this venue for Southern California Shows!

It is hard to believe but the much-anticipated Kentuckiana Cluster in Louisville is right around the corner! I don’t know about you, but I sure missed it last year. I am told that RV parking with hook-ups is already 50% sold. The correct number to call for RV parking is 502-367-5380 (there is an incorrect number published in the premium). If you plan to attend this cluster with a motorhome, you’d better get your spot reserved soon!

A shout-out to the Rose City Cluster who provided a COVID testing site for those Canadian fanciers who attended! Thank you to all involved for making it easier for our Canadian friends to attend the show.

The American Kennel Club has changed the schedule for their Meet the Breeds Tour. There will not be a Meet The Breeds event at the Beverly Hills cluster, as originally planned. The remaining dates are Tampa, Florida in April, Dallas, Texas in June, San Diego, California in September, Columbus, Ohio in October, and New York City (Pier 36, where Westminster breed judging was supposed to occur) in November. I encourage everyone to volunteer for the Meet the Breeds event near you!

I am told Melinda Lyon had a little setback in her healing process, but she plans to be in Louisville with bells on to greet us all! Take it easy, Melinda. We look forward to seeing you!

CJ Favre’s wife, Lisa, is recuperating from her recent open-heart surgery. Everyone’s continued positive thoughts are much appreciated. Get well soon, Lisa!

Bob Busby is recovering from a surgical procedure. Positive thoughts for a complete recovery!

Alicia Jones is beginning her treatment for Leukemia and Lymphoma. Positive thoughts for a smooth, successful treatment, my friend. You’ve got this!!

Here’s an interesting tidbit. Shaun Garrity and his husband, Todd Jacobs, were headed to Maui.  There was something a bit unconventional about the trip:  Todd was flying the commercial plane with Shaun and 150 others! This was the first time Shaun was on a flight piloted by his husband.

Happy 54th wedding anniversary to Brian and Cindy Myer. May the two of you have another awesome 54 years!

Celebrating birthdays this week are Marcelo Veras, Dick Schaefer, Kristen Dowd, David Cook, John Wade, Penny Kretchmer, Dominic Carota, Nancy Martin, Kellye Riani and Randy Benns.

Remember, my friends:  Life without a dog is possible, but pointless!!!!  Be safe in your travels!  I’ll see you soon down the road. Until next time…
