Table Talk · April 6, 2022

If you know me at all, you know I love awards show season! Last week many of you were kind enough to give a shout-out to my Oscar Awards analogy about Will Smith and Lady Gaga.  Thank you all for your kind words! Keep the analogy in mind when you have visions of giving someone a “smack down” and instead reach for your inner Lady Gaga!

This past Sunday evening I was in my happy place once again as the 2022 Grammy Awards were televised in their pre-covid format! While I must admit that each year I know less and less of the artists and songs, I still enjoy the crazy fashion, and there is still some music that I enjoy.  This year the Grammy’s gave special recognition to the “behind the scenes support”. Tour Managers, Roadies, Stage Managers, etc., introduced their talent and recognition was given to all of those who support the artists. Do you see where I am going with this? As fanciers we need to be better at recognizing all of those behind the scenes that support our sport. This includes the club volunteers, the handler’s assistants, the maintenance staff at the venues where our shows are held, and the list goes on. Without the efforts of these wonderful people, our sport would not continue in its current form. When shows returned after shutdown, we did a pretty good job of recognizing the clubs that fought to put on shows and all of the volunteers that worked those shows. As a fancy, we need to continue to recognize AND HELP all of those behind the scenes that keep our sport going strong!

Westminster entries close this week! I’m sure you are all as excited as I am about returning to the beautiful Lyndhurst property. I look forward to seeing everyone there!

Great Dane fanciers Andy and Suzanne Barbee were in a car accident while traveling to the dog show in Henderson, Nevada this past weekend. Sadly, Suzanne did not survive the accident.  The dogs and Andy are alright. Our thoughts are with Andy as he recovers from this terrible accident.

It is with a heavy heart that I pass on the sad news that Lowell Davis passed away. Lowell and his wife Arlene were long time Great Dane fanciers and AKC judges and they were at the helm of the Mission Circuit for many years. Our deepest sympathy to Arlene and the rest of the Davis family.

Our most sincere sympathy goes out to David and Kristyn Stout on the loss of David’s mother, Pat, who passed away after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

Wendy Paquette is home and recovering after quadruple bypass surgery. Wendy is being a trooper and I hear she is working hard on her rehab. We look forward to having you back at shows soon, Wendy!

Congratulations to Antoinelle and Frank Vulpis on the birth of their baby boy, Logan Stanley Vulpis. Logan was born 17 days early at 6 pounds 14 oz. and 20 inches long. May you all enjoy many years of happy times, health, and good fortune!

Happy 10th Anniversary to Sarah and Matt Perchick! Here is hoping you two love birds take a few days to celebrate your special day. My goodness does time fly!

Fanciers celebrating birthdays this week are: Will Alexander, Ron Scott, Susie Olivera, Chris Jones, Barb Ohmann, Lesli Smith, Ken Murray, Robin Stansell, Jen Milani, Carla Sanchez, Kathy Guerra, Roxanne Chumbley, Lynn Cobin-Comstock and Johann Emedi.  Celebrate in style, my friends!!

My thought for the week:  Not every day is a good day, show up anyway. Not everyone tells the truth, trust anyway. Not everyone will love you back, love anyway. Not every game will be fair, play anyway.

Travel safely, my friends. Lend a hand whenever possible and be kind to those around you. If you are in Perry, Georgia next week, please be sure to stop by the Purina Booth and say Hi!  Until next time…
