MBF Releases The Top Reasons Westminster Kennel Club Entries Are Returned

Don’t make these common mistakes!

Every year, Fanciers who have been waiting to have an eligible dog they considered worthy of exhibiting at Westminster find notices in their mailboxes advising them their entry is being returned. Without fail, exhibitors who have been successfully completing entry forms every week for shows for years, do and/or forget something simple that makes their Westminster entries invalid. Read the premium list! Westminster has specific rules and requirements regarding entering their show. Be sure to check your entry for these common errors before submitting it.

1.    Submitted/Postmarked Too Early - The premium list clearly states when you may begin submitting entries for Westminster, but every year, once exhibitors see the premium list, some of them submit their entry immediately without any regard to the appropriate date. Entries for this show that are sent too early get returned.

2.    No Back - When the reverse side of the entry form is not included for any show the entry is not complete. You MUST have BOTH sides of the entry form for it to be valid. NOTE: The current AKC official entry form now requires your signature on the reverse of the entry form.

3.    Entry Form Missing the AKC Show Name and Complete Date where the dog received its Qualifying Major or finished its AKC Championship – BOTH these pieces of information are required for all non-invited conformation entries, both mailed and online submissions. If both are missing, or if only one of them is provided, the entry is not acceptable. Remember, they must be AKC events.
