On Monday, June 20, 2016, Manatee Kennel Club presented a check for $13,500.00 to Manatee County Sheriff’s Department for the purchase of a K-9 from Europe. The sixteen month old Dutch Shepherd named Niko is in training for Apprehension & Narcotics with Deputy Scott Buird. Niko is learning very fast and is expected to join the force full time soon.
Niko is replacing K-9 Bailey who retired last year and who now lives with Deputy Scott and his family as a pet.
A few years ago, Manatee Kennel club donated $5,000 to help offset the cost of another dog. Last year, the club paid for a kennel for the dog to use inside the office to be close to the handlers while completing on paperwork.
