The article highlights and summarizes the benefits of the One Health Initiative, a global movement to further understand the interrelatedness of human, animal, and environmental health in a comprehensive manner.

According to Dr. Brown, the AKC Canine Health Foundation has funded 30 clinical trials for dogs in the past 15 years. Many of these studies go on to have pivotal implications in treatments not only for our dogs, but for humans as well. In the last 20 years, the AKC Canine Health Foundation has awarded nearly $11 million in canine cancer research grants alone.

In the article, Dr. Brown emphasizes that the dogs involved in such clinical trials are well-loved members of a family. In an effort to humanely treat and improve the quality of life for their beloved dog, the dog owners have chosen to engage in new, cutting-edge treatment options with a team of researchers at some of the top veterinary and human medical institutions in the world. “These are dogs that belong to people that continue to be cared for and live in their homes,” Brown says.

“You’ll have veterinary specialists who are running trials that have access to all the latest tests and MRIs and equipment, so the dogs are still treated for their medical condition.”
