An Update on the Eukanuba World Challenge Move To Europe

As we reported last week, the Eukanuba World Challenge will move to Amsterdam for 2014.  This move might have been unexpected by those in the fancy, but Jason Taylor, Asst. Show Chairman of the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship and Sr. Communications Manager for Iams, Eukanuba and Natura Pet Foods says the move is positive for the World Challenge and should not impact the growth of the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship.

“We were proud to host the World Challenge finals at AENC, but we don’t expect a significant impact on entries.  The addition of Friday as a specialty day, the finals of the National Owner Handler Series, and the finals of the Eukanuba Breeder’s Stakes are all recent additions, and so we expect the AENC will continue to grow,” says Taylor in an exclusive interview with The Canine Chronicle.

Mr. Taylor said some issues regarding the Eukanuba World Challenge are yet to be resolved.   Asked if dogs from America will be sent to the EWC in Amsterdam at Eukanuba’s expense, similar to the program that was in place for foreign dogs that came to the Orlando event, Taylor confirmed the top U.S. dog will be invited to the World Challenge, but could not answer how that trip would be funded. He said, “We have confirmed that the top U.S. dog, as selected by the American Kennel Club, will continue to be invited to compete in the Eukanuba World Challenge finals.   No decisions have been made as yet on whether or how those trips would be funded.”
