154 – The Annual, 2024-25

Twelve years ago, the UK was shivering through one of its coldest winters on record. Even on the mild south coast (where we then lived), crisp snow lay on the ground. Usually (although England practically collapses when even a mere inch of snow falls) I would simply have enjoyed the snowy, picturesque scenes but things were very different that year.
There was a growing sense of urgency.
Marc and I had just bought a gorgeous Miniature Smooth Dachshund puppy from one of the UK’s top breeders.
However, every time we planned to make the long drive up north to pick up our puppy, a fresh deep fall of snow would suddenly fall.
I wondered if it were a sign.
“Maybe we just aren’t meant to have him?”
