Proceed with Caution While Traveling & Staying at Hotels

By: Alaina House

What a night last night was; after a 16 hour drive…

After getting to the hotel, I was out walking dogs and this younger girl came running at me yelling, “Help, Help, Help!” At this point I took off as she then preceded to try to grab me… (wrong thing to do as I have a Doberman). Thankfully Morgan Scandura made the trip with me, and she was out there with me. After I got to her, the girl still was running at us. She kept saying, “someone is following me. Someone kidnapped my friend! Help, Help!”

My first thought was to call 911. I said to her, “Would you like me to call 911?” She said, “I can’t leave my friend back there.” I said, “Go to the front desk and tell them.” The girl took off running, and I have no clue where she ended up.

We called the police and they arrived at the hotel quickly. There is no sighting of this girl. The first thing the police said is, “You are lucky. She was more than likely trying to lure you to the back of the property, or get you somewhere to rob you…”

While we travel week-in and week-out for dog shows, and feel safe most of the time while on the show grounds amongst our peers, we must remember to proceed with caution, especially when we are at different hotels; especially considering the hours of the night that we tend to walk our dogs.  We must remember to watch our surroundings, travel with someone whenever possible, use common sense, and always call 911 for help.
