No matter what show I attend nowadays, there are two topics that are sure to come up numerous times during various conversations with friends and exhibitors. The first is the abundance of dog shows held weekly thoughout the country. A close second is the frustration of having to show to the same judges every couple of weeks.

The people expressing their concern (sometimes disgust) with having to deal with these issues are seasoned exhibitors. Some, but not all, are professional handlers. Their opinions do not vary much. They are all tired of attending 4- and 5-day circuits every week; and they are just as tired of seeing the same judges at those circuits.

I have my own opinions about the number of shows held in this country and how they are being judged by what is basically a core group of judges. My opinions align with the people I talk to at the shows. There are too many dog shows held too close together and judged by the same people. AKC could make a few changes in the rules to alleviate these problems.?That probably won’t happen any time soon. So, instead of beating the proverbial dead horse, let’s instead talk about the consequences of having people who are basically professional judges passing on our exhibits too often.
