Butterflies Invade The Roberts Center

The Papillon Club of America National Specialty was held last week, May 24th through June 1st, in Wilmington, Ohio at Eukanuba Hall at The Roberts Center.

The Papillon Club of America offered three days of Papillon agility, two days of Papillon obedience and two Papillon rally trials. The Papillon Club of America offered two regional specialties, in addition to the National Specialty regular classes and Puppy and Veteran Sweepstakes. All events were well attended and exhibitors were thrilled with the Eukanuba Hall facility. Gemedet Video Services offered free live streaming video of all events for those who could not attend.

Mrs. Ruth Ann Ford of Forevr Papillons judged the Puppy and Veteran Sweepstakes on Thursday, May 29th. Fenice Fiddle Dee-Dee Miss Scarlett O’Tara was Best in Sweepstakes from the 6-9 Puppy Bitch class. Best of Opposite in Sweepstakes was Teca’s Benji Take A Bow. Mrs. Ford chose GCh. Ashlor’s Smooth Sailing UD RE AX AXJ as Best in Veteran Sweepstakes and GCh. Amoure Beau’s Just by Luck as Best of Opposite in Veteran Sweepstakes.

Mr. James Reynolds judged the National Specialty. He judged Winners Dog through Bred by Bitch on Friday, May 30th. He judged the balance of bitch classes and Best of Breed on Saturday, May 31st. Winners Dog was Clearlake On The Road Again, from the Bred by Dog Class. Winners Bitch was Denzel The Latest Fashion, from the Open Bitch class. Mr. Reynolds chose GCh. Involo Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’ as his National Best in Specialty. He is owned by Madeline Mosing, and his breeders, Michael, Donna and Gia Garofalo. He was breeder, owner, handled by Gia. GCh. Wildfire on The Record was Best of Opposite Sex. She is owned by Nancy Shaw, and her breeders, Angela and Cheslie Pickett. She is handled by Larry Cornelius. Select Dog was GCh. Lafford Fly Me Too Farleysbane and Select Bitch was Ch. Denzel State of the Art. Award of Merits included Ch. Fenice Le Beaudreux, GCh. Involo The King of Pop, Ch. Starquest’s Show Me The Money, GCh. Medina’s Luck Be A Lady Tonight, and GCh. Allistar Denzel The Socialite. Best of Winners was the Winners Dog.

Throughout the week, exhibitors attended various seminars, a phalene and papillon match, and the annual general meeting. Saturday evening was the awards party. GCh. Involo The King of Pop was awarded the 2013 Gold Butterfly and GCh. Wildfire On The Record was awarded the 2013 Silver Butterfly.

Mrs. June Penta judged the first regional specialty, held prior to the National Specialty, on Wednesday, May 28th. Winners Dog was Denzel In Dress Blues, from the Open dog class. Winners Bitch was Denzel State of The Art, from the Bred By bitch class. Both the Winners Dog and Winners Bitch finished their championship this day.  Mrs. Penta chose GCh. Involo Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’ as her Best in Specialty. GCh. Wildfire On The Record was Best of Opposite Sex. Select Dog was GCh. Involo The King of Pop and Select Bitch was Ch. Marquis The Inner Circle. Award of Merits included GCh. Mystery’s Question Mark, Ch. Marron’s Tommy Hilfiger, GCh. Fenice Le Beaudreux and GCh. Noir Mist Kiss and Tell at Copella. Best of Winners was the Winners Dog.

The second regional specialty was the final event of the week held after the National Specialty on June 1st. It was judged by Dr. Gareth Morgan-Jones. Winners Dog was Marquis Court’s Shimmering Splendour, from the Open dog class. Winners Bitch was Denzel The Latest Fashion, from the Open Bitch class. Dr. Morgan-Jones chose GCh. Wildfire On The Record as his Best in Specialty. GCh. Involo Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’ was Best of Opposite Sex. Select Dog was GCh. Mystery’s Question Mark and Select Bitch was Ch. Denzel State of The Art. Award of Merits included GCh. Hallmark’s Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, GCh. Starquest’s Show Me The Money, GCh. MicFriends Trujoy Eye Candy, Ch Marron’s Tommy Hilfiger, and GCh. Medina’s Luck Be A Lady Tonight. Best of Winners was the Winners Dog.

Kudos to the National Specialty Chairman, Dana Oliver, Papillon Club of America President, Kevin Ray, and the National show committee for their endless hours of work to put on a lovely week of Papillon events. The 2015 National Specialty will be held at the end of March in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
