The American Kennel Club Honors Connecticut Representative Doug Dubitsky at Legislator of The Year

New York, NY – The American Kennel Club (AKC®), the world’s largest purebred dog registry and leading advocate for dogs, is pleased to announce that Connecticut State Representative Doug Dubitsky will be presented with the 2018 AKC Legislator of the Year Award.

During the 2018 legislative session, Representative Dubitsky established a diverse legislative working group to study various dog-related issues and report those recommendations for possible legislative action. As a result of this scrupulous coordination, House Bill 5367 was drafted and met with bipartisan support. Additionally, in 2014, Rep. Dubitsky was instrumental in passing Public Act 14-205, which was charged with studying the treatment of animals in municipal and regional shelters.

A special thank you to the CT Federation of Dog Clubs & Responsible Dog Owners (CFDRDO) for nominating Rep. Dubitsky for this honor.

“Representative Dubitsky recognizes the real issues plaguing the dog world. His work with the animal shelter study ensures dogs in the state’s possession are held to humane standards of care. Rep. Dubitsky is a true ally of dogs and responsible dog owners, and we are pleased to present him with this honor,” said Sheila Goffe, AKC Vice President, Government Relations.

“It has been an honor to work with Representative Dubitsky on many dog owner, breeder and handler issues, which is why the Connecticut Federation of Dog Clubs and Responsible Dog Owners nominated him,” said CFDRDO President, Laurie Maulucci.

In the Connecticut House, Rep. Dubitsky serves on committees reviewing animal welfare matters and matters related to municipal functions. He also Chairs his hometown’s Planning & Zoning Commission. In these roles, he has extensive contact with all stakeholders regarding the issues of animal welfare, responsible dog ownership, and dog bites.

Rep. Dubitsky is an attorney who lives on a working farm and represents a primarily farming community. He has owned and trained with dogs for over 20 years, including one Labrador Retriever that he attended Field Trials and hunted with regularly. He previously owned a Blue Lacy (Texas Cattle Dog) with which he handled livestock on his farm. During that time, Rep. Dubitsky was involved with the Texas Lacy Game Dog Association.
