Remembering Eugene Haupt

We received the sad news that Mr. Eugene Haupt of Louisville, Kentucky passed away this week at his home on December 25th 2019. He was 97 years old. Mr. Haupt was a respected and well-known judge of all Working Breeds.

Mr. Haupt was a dedicated dog show fancier, as a owner and handler of many Best in Show winners. He was also an active member of the Louisville Kennel Club and Mid Kentucky Kennel Club. He was the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement award from the Doberman Pinscher Club of America, of which he was also an member.

Even more impressive, Mr. Haupt was an exemplary and highly decorated World War II Veteran. He was a second lieutenant with three Bronze Stars and was even awarded a Purple Heart. He was also a D-Day survivor, as a member of the 101st Airborne Division, the “Screaming Eagles,” Haupt was one of the first American troops to land in Normandy.

The Canine Chronicle extends our heartfelt condolences to Gene’s many family and friends during this time. We have lost a wonderful man.

Visitation will be from 1- 4 pm on Sunday December 29th, 2019 at Pearson’s Funeral Home in Louisville, KY.In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to Take the Lead in his name.
