Remembering Dr. Bernard “Bud” McGivern Jr.
It is with great regret that we report the recent passing of Dr. Bernard “Bud” McGivern Jr. of Staten Island, New York on Thursday, August 27, 2015. Dr. McGivern was a highly respected judge of the Sporting and Non-Sporting Group, Best in Show, and Junior Showmanship.
Before becoming a popular judge, Dr. McGivern successfully bred Vizslas with his wife, Diane. They bred nearly 30 Vizsla champions. He was involved in revising the AKC Vizsla standard to what is currently used today.
Dr. McGivern was also very involved in various dog clubs. He was the past president and delegate of the Staten Island Kennel Club, founder and past president of the Vizsla Club of Greater New York and the Vizsla Club of Northern New Jersey. He was a member of the Westminster Kennel Club and Westchester Kennel Club.
As a judge, he judged all over the world, including many prestigious events. Notably, he judged at the Westminster Kennel Club thirteen times, including the Sporting group twice.
There will be visitation at the Harmon Funeral home in Staten Island New York on Monday, August 31, 2015 from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM and a service at 5:00 PM.
