Positive Canine Influenza Case In Georgia
The University of Georgia Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory has reported the first positive case of Canine Influenza in Georgia. The University of Georgia Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory sent out a notice to Georgia veterinarians regarding the case late last week.
The affected dog’s symptom’s included coughing, fever, lethargy, and lack of appetite. The dog was also up to date on all typical DHPP, rabies, and bordetella vaccines. The University of Georgia reported that this dog had recently been in contact with other dogs at an Atlanta boarding facility.
Further testing has been done to determine whether the dog is positive for the H3N8 strain (long-standing strain of the virus) or the new H3N2 strain (Chicago outbreak strain). Results will be available later this week.
