Morris & Essex Kennel Club Elects 2016 Officers and Directors, And Donates More Than $30,000 To Canine Causes

NEW YORK – At its annual board and club meetings on Sunday, February 14, the Morris & Essex Kennel Club unanimously voted in its new officers and directors, and made sizeable donations to a variety of canine charities and organizations.

At the Morris & Essex board meeting, Wayne Ferguson was re-elected as the president of the club, which was founded by Mrs. Geraldine Rockefeller Dodge. The board also voted to have Connie Butherus continue in her long-time role as club Secretary.

The club’s Treasurer, Milan D. Lint, was elected to the office of Vice President, filling the vacancy created by the resignation of David Helming, who begins his new role as show chair of the Westminster Kennel Club.

“We at Morris & Essex know all too well how effective David Helming is at running large and complex shows,” said Morris & Essex president Wayne Ferguson. “We are delighted he will remain on the Morris & Essex board as a director, and we wish him all the best in his new Westminster role.”

Cynthia Sansone was elected as the club Treasurer.

In the subsequent membership meeting, the following directors were unanimously voted into the class of 2019: Candy Caciolo, Milan D. Lint, Ron Scott, Cecilia Ruggles, Michael Scott, Nancy Shaw, Ruth Periera, Tina Truesdale and Cynthia M. Sansone.

As is the club’s tradition after each of its shows, which are held every five years, the Morris & Essex Kennel Club donated some of the show income back to canine group and causes. Donations made immediately after the show went to Take the Lead ($2,000) and St. Hubert’s Giralda ($5,000), the Madison, New Jersey, shelter established by Mrs. Dodge. St. Hubert’s was instrumental in providing photographs and archive access for the new Morris & Essex book published this year, “The Golden Age of Dog Shows” (available from morris-essex.myshopify.com).

At the annual meeting, the Morris & Essex Kennel Club earmarked additional proceeds from the record-breaking 2015 show: $10,000 to the Canine Health Foundation (which will be matched by the American Kennel Club); $5,000 to Take the Lead, and $5,000 to the Franklin Township Animal Shelter.

The club also voted to fund a portion of an AKC Pet Disaster Relief trailer (approximately $5,000 to $7,000) through AKC Reunite once an appropriate partner club is found.

The next Morris & Essex Kennel Club show will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2020. For more information, visit www.morrisandessexkennelclub.org.
