Kennel Club of Philadelphia Will Once Again Hold Its Annual All-Breed Dog Show in November – With Some Timely Adjustments

UPDATE: Kennel Club of Philadelphia raises its entry limit to 600 for the National Dog Show Nov. 14-15. The entry limit for the National Dog Show Hosted by the Kennel Club of Philadelphia has been increased to 600 dogs. Additional details coming soon from theshowsuperintendent, MB-F, Inc. (infodog.com)

In a 2020 dog show calendar filled with cancellations and postponements, the Kennel Club of Philadelphia is stepping up to add to its rich history that dates back to 1879 by once again holding its annual all-breed dog show, the National Dog Show hosted by the Kennel Club of Philadelphia, in November in Oaks, Penn.

With full attention being given to state and local health and safety issues for activities during the COVID-19 pandemic, and under the approving guidance of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners and the County Health Department, the show will be presented as a single, two-day show on Nov. 14-15 at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center.

As it has been since its inception in 2002, the show will again be televised on NBC on Thanksgiving Day immediately following the telecast of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

The unique needs and circumstances for dog shows and its participants will be in full consideration, with the American Kennel Club’s guidelines for best practices in the pandemic aiding the club, as well.

There will be some visible and necessary changes and adjustments over recent shows. Among the changes for this year:

  • In recent years, the club has held two dog shows on a consecutive Saturday and Sunday. This year, the club will hold just one show divided over those two days.
  • The show will be limited to a total of 600 dogs (300 each day).
  • All entries must be AKC champions.
  • Four groups will be held on Saturday, three groups and Best In Show on Sunday.
  • There will be $20,000 offered in prize money.
  • Unlike normal years, the show will be unbenched.
  • There will be no spectators allowed and no vendors on hand.
  • Shows normally held on the Thursday and Friday prior to the KCP show, Greater Philadelphia Dog Fanciers Association, and Penn Treaty Kennel Club, will not be held.

The Kennel Club of Philadelphia and its predecessors have been hosting shows since 1876, with today’s version of the KCP having been held first in 1879 and continuously since 1934. Beginning in 1996, the club has staged two dog shows each year on a consecutive Saturday and Sunday in mid-November.

Dates for the opening of the entry process and closing date will be announced soon by the show superintendent, MB-F. For more information, contact the superintendent or watch the MB-F website at infodog.com.
