Increasing Canine Influenza Cases in Georgia

The University of Georgia Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory has released an update on the increasing cases of canine influenza in Georgia. Their report indicates that as of June 25, 2015, the Athens Veterinary Diagnostic laboratory has performed 140 canine influenza PCR panels, resulting in 55 confirmed positive cases. Although the first positive cases originated in Metro Atlanta, there have been other positive cases detected outside the Metro Atlanta area. So far, all of the positive cases in Georgia that have undergone further testing have been identified as the new H3N2 strain. The H3N2 strain is responsible for the outbreak of Canine Influenza in the midwest.
