David Frei Resigns as Director of Communications for the Westminster Kennel Club

David Frei resigned as director of communications for the Westminster Kennel Club effective Friday, October 16, 2015. This message was posted on his personal Facebook page:

FRIENDS AND FOLLOWERS: Friday was my last day as director of communications for the Westminster Kennel Club. I have resigned to accept a wonderful offer from NBC to continue as expert analyst on the National Dog Show Presented by Purina and to work on other projects.

Westminster has asked me and I have agreed to host this February’s live telecast from Madison Square Garden for the 27th year (the “Voice of Westminster” since 1990, quite proud of that). I love Westminster and it has been my life for a long time, including the past 12 years as director of communications. But it is time for me to move on. I’ll miss the day-to-day involvement, but I am excited about the future with NBC.

I am also excited as always about continuing to co-host the National Dog Show on Thanksgiving Day with my great friend John O’Hurley, working with all my NBC friends and with my great friend for more than 30 years, Wayne Ferguson, president of the Kennel Club of Philadelphia (the National Dog Show). This will be our 13th year, and last year we were seen by 25 million viewers.

Anyway, I am still going to be quite involved in the dog show world, I am not going away. I am still going to be speaking for our purebred dogs, responsible breeders, therapy dogs and all dogs, continuing to celebrate what they do for us. I hope that I will continue to work hard to represent us well to the “outside” world.

My Westminster email will not reach me directly now. If you are in my address book you will receive a note from me in the next day or so with my new email address. Or you can reach me by messaging me here. In any case, please be patient about my response time.

Another Post: Just to clarify, as a few comments have mis-stated this: I have been asked and I have accepted the invitation to host Westminster once again (for the 27th year) this coming February 2016. You don’t have to miss me just yet!

And I am still quite involved with my charity, Angel On A Leash, and will spend more time there.

Thanks for all the likes and comments. I am honored and plan to keep plugging away for our wonderful dogs, purebred and otherwise, our responsible breeders and our great sport.

Editor’s Note: I am sure everyone will miss David’s presence at Westminster and his familiar voice on the broadcast after 2016.
