Collie Club of America Statement Regarding the Alabama Neglect/Abuse Case
The following is The Collie Club of America, Inc. President (Mike Van Tassell) Statement coordinated by the Public Relations Committee to the Alabama Neglect/Abuse Case:
The Collie Club of America, Inc. has been informed of the extraordinary neglect/abuse case involving multiple collies in Alabama in recent weeks. The Club would like to state for the record that the accused person being sought by police on felony charges in this case is not, nor has ever been, a member of the Collie Club of America. The Collie Club of America Code of Ethics requires members to provide proper care for the animals in their charge. It should also be stated that the Collie community, including Collie Club of America members, veterinarians, rescue organizations and generous individuals, has rallied in unified support for the surviving dogs with offers of food, foster care, veterinary services and monetary donations. Additionally, the Collie Club of America is implementing a plan to further educate its own members on how to be proactive and aware so that future tragic situations like the current Alabama case will never happen again.
