A Special Message from Morris & Essex Kennel Club

Though our show is only held once every five years, I think of Morris & Essex as a far-flung but close-knit family. As such, I hope this note finds each and every one of you healthy, safe and secure.

We are reaching out to the fancy with this message in response to ill-founded rumors that our upcoming show, on October 1, 2020, has been cancelled.

In addition, our sister clubs – Hatboro, Devon and Montgomery – are looking forward to their shows that same week as well.

Our hearts are with those show chairs whose shows are scheduled for the near future, as they have difficult decisions before them.

Rest assured that we are intently monitoring the evolving state and federal guidelines regarding the pandemic, as well as looking closely at shows taking place over the coming months, and their efforts to mitigate the possibility of spread. We take the well-being of our exhibitors and judges most seriously, and will continue to evaluate our ability to hold an event whose level of safety is commensurate with the level of anticipation it generates.

Almost overnight, our world – and our sport – were turned upside down by COVID-19. As the pandemic’s effect on our lives continues, there is a deepening desire to look to the future, to plan, and to remember that a return to our normal lives is not out of reach.

To that end, the world’s scientists and researchers are working around the clock to produce a vaccine, find an effective treatment and develop effective containment measures. Should they be successful on any of these fronts, the world could look much different – and much brighter – by the time our show arrives more than five months from now.

Ever since Mrs. Geraldine Rockefeller Dodge put on her first show in 1927, the Morris & Essex Kennel Club has been witness to some of the most challenging moments in our nation’s history. From the Great Depression through the early years of World War II to the Korean conflict, the orange-and-blue Morris & Essex banners continued to flutter over the polo fields at Giralda Farms.

We remain hopeful that they will do the same at Colonial Park on October 1, 2020.
