Join Us To Celebrate Our Beloved Maltese – Great American Maltese Virtual Celebration & Exhibition

The GREAT AMERICAN MALTESE VIRTUAL CELEBRATION AND EXHIBITION is one of the first virtual specialty shows!  We are celebrating our National Show that was supposed to be held this week in Norman, Oklahoma.  Our virtual show celebration, June 13-25, is a worldwide event, AND IT”S FREE!  At our show on Facebook, our breeders, exhibitors and handlers from all over the world can show off the gorgeous dogs they would have shown at the National.

In our breed, many probably would not maintain their coats until next year, so this is a way they can show off their dogs now. Since puppies are usually the biggest part of a specialty entry, they can be seen in all the glory of their age now. What makes this different from other virtual shows is that many people do not have the ability to video their dog, but it’s easy to take a still photo. Also, we are accepting pictures in one class as a historical retrospective, so old pictures from the past are welcome.

This event will create a database of learning about the history of our breed. Also, judges can view many dogs throughout the country or around the world through our history without having to find any books! We have judges and prizes, too! A VERY SPECIAL PROCLAMATION 

We are honored and proud to announce that three matriarchs of the Maltese breed in America–Barbara Bergquist, Mary Day and Kathy DiGiacomo–have officially proclaimed June 13-25, 2020 as THE GREAT AMERICAN MALTESE VIRTUAL CELEBRATION AND EXHIBITION 2020 for the purpose of exhibiting our best Maltese that we planned to show at the National Specialty. Show off your best ‘virtually’ on our National Specialty Facebook page. Keep watching the page for more exciting announcements and plan to enter. Remember, our show is FREE!!!

Let’s celebrate our beautiful Maltese, and brag and show them off to each other with the same enthusiasm we have at our National.  Besides the chance to gather with friends at the National, we all miss the opportunity to meet the Maltese competing across the country. National Specialty week is the only opportunity where Maltese show breeders have a chance to evaluate our breed on a national and international playing field. It’s where we evaluate our own breeding programs to see how close we’re coming to breeding to the breed standard. We often discover another’s line that we think can complement ours while having the chance to speak personally to compare notes and pedigrees. At the National, we have the chance to attend the judge’s education seminar and learn even more while sitting next to AKC judges. In addition, puppies that were to be shown this year will not be puppies next year and perhaps they will not be shown at next year’s Nationals. Many adult dogs whose owners planned to exhibit them at the National may be cut down or bred in the meantime and would not be seen by many in our breed.

Just because our National has been canceled, we don’t have to sacrifice the opportunity to share the beautiful Maltese we intended to show at our AMA National Specialty Show in Oklahoma. Join the celebration and enter your best in our virtual photo celebration!

RULES AND PRIZES

Post a photo which best shows your dog’s head, top line, balance, tail set and hair quality. Include your dog’s registered name, age, sire and dam, breeder and owner. Feel free to share additional photos and, if you do, post them as a reply to your entry photo comment on the appropriate judging thread.

What would a celebration be without prizes? This one is no exception. FOUR gift certificates from LAINEE LIMITED and donated by Wayne Baker will be awarded for each of the best conformation categories:

In order to be considered for judging, your photo must be posted in the comments of the appropriate class thread. Remember, all entries are FREE!!!

Entries opened on June 13 as soon as the class threads were posted. Entries will close on June 24 at NOON EDT.

Winners will be announced as soon as judging is completed.

AKC JUDGES

For the sake of judge’s education and for those judges who would have attended the judge’s education seminar at our National Specialty, we will tag any judge who wishes to view our photographic celebration of the Maltese.

THINK OF IT AS A FREE AD

Since we won’t have a catalog for the 2020 nationals that have been canceled, we can think of this celebration as our catalog, but the ads are FREE! In addition, our national’s Facebook page has become a permanent archive for our breed over the last five years.
