Kennel Club to Hold Unique Summer Trial For Retrievers
The Kennel Club is holding an All Aged Any Variety Retriever Field Trial, on grouse shot over Pointers and Setters, at the Croglin Estate, Cumbria, on Monday 26th August.
The trial will see some of the country’s most talented working gundogs putting their natural instincts to good use to retrieve for their handlers. The trial is unique in that a variety of Pointers and Setters will be used to locate and point the game for their handlers, who will then have the dogs flush the game when the guns are ready. The game is then retrieved by the competing Retrievers.
Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Secretary, said: “We are expecting to see a high quality of gundog work at this trial and are very much looking forward to seeing what the Retrievers can do.
“The fact that the game is located, pointed and flushed by Pointers and Setters at this trial makes it a collaborative effort between the dogs and is very interesting to watch.
“We use a selection of different Pointer and Setter breeds, owned by a group of volunteers who work their dogs in order for the Retrievers to then retrieve in the competition.”
A schedule and entry form for the trial are now available on the Kennel Club website, at www.thekennelclub.org.uk/item/2553.
