Massachusetts-Based Company Wellness Natural Pet Food Donates 33,000 Pounds of Pet Food to The Greater Boston Food Bank During COVID-19 Pandemic

Wellness Natural Pet Food donates canned pet food to ensure Boston pet parents can keep their furry family members fed

Dogs and cats are celebrated members of our families, and no family should ever feel that they cannot care for the health and wellbeing of their pet. The COVID-19 pandemic has created many economic challenges and worries for families across the Greater Boston area, and Wellness® Natural Pet Food, which is headquartered in Tewksbury, Mass., has stepped up to ensure that no family is worried about how they will continue to support their beloved pet.

In response to the COVID-19 crisis, Wellness Natural Pet Food is donating 60 double stacked pallets of canned dog food—that’s two trucks-full worth of pet food weighing in at over 33,000 lbs.—to support pet parents in the Greater Boston area and ensure that they can still nourish their pet with healthy, nutritious food during this trying time. In just the last month, Wellness Natural Pet Food has donated 300,000 meals to at-risk animals in our communities and beyond.

“We want to make sure that every pet in our community has access to a full bowl with high-quality, natural food,” said Camelle Kent, chief executive officer of WellPet, the maker of Wellness Natural Pet Food. “Giving back to pets in need is an important part of our company culture and our guiding light in all that we do through our Wellness Foundation and other charitable giving efforts, and we are committed to doing everything we can to support pet parents who may need a little extra help during this difficult time.”

“The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB) is grateful for partners like Wellness Natural Pet Food for their generous donation during this unprecedented situation,” said Catherine D’Amato, president and CEO, GBFB. “Everyone has a role in ending hunger in our community and this donation will help our neighbors in need provide food for their four-legged friends.”

The COVID-19 pandemic has left many people in the Boston community without a stable way to provide for their family, including their pets. According to The Greater Boston Food Bank, one in 11 members of the Greater Boston community is at risk of hunger. This pandemic has surely exacerbated the situation for those families who are also struggling to support one or multiple pets as well. In fact, a recent study found that 34 percent of those at risk for hunger in Eastern Massachusetts earn too much to qualify for government-provided emergency food assistance. Wellness Natural Pet Food is ensuring that anyone in the Boston community struggling to provide for their pets can continue to feed their furry family members nutritious meals during the pandemic.
