Two Kentucky Lawmakers Receive AKC Legislator of the Year Awards

Frankfort, KY –The American Kennel Club (AKC) is pleased to announce that Kentucky State Senator Robin Webb and State Representative Tommy Turner are recipients of the AKC Legislator of the Year Award for 2016.

“The American Kennel Club is pleased to honor Senator Webb and Representative Turner with our Legislator of the Year Award,” said Sheila Goffe, AKC Vice President of Government Relations.  “Their commitment, hard work, and dedication has made a significant, positive impact on Kentucky’s responsible dog owners, breeders and sportsmen. We salute Senator Webb’s and Representative Turner’s extraordinary leadership to protecting the health and well-being of dogs and the rights of responsible dog owners and sportsmen.”

The awards were presented at the Kentucky State Capitol on February 8th by Doug Morgan on behalf of the American Kennel Club. Mr. Morgan is President of the Rowan County Coon Club and the Kentucky Houndsmen Association.

“I appreciate the recognition by the American Kennel Club,” said Senator Webb (D-Grayson). “As a loving owner of purebred and non-purebred dogs, I share and partner in the mission of the AKC in promoting the sport of purebred dogs and the well-being of all dogs, while protecting the rights and interests of dog owners. I love and cherish my dogs and will continue to work on maintaining and creating public policy to continue the beneficial canine/human relationship.”

“It is an honor for me to be named legislator of the year by this great organization,” said Representative Turner (R-Somerset). “The American Kennel Club represents many hunting, sporting and show dog groups, and I’ve always enjoyed working with them, as their causes are very important to me. I look forward to continue working with AKC in the future, as I have throughout my legislative career. Again, this is an honor that I will always cherish, and will be forever thankful for.”

The AKC Legislator of the Year award honors legislators who demonstrate a commitment to promoting responsible dog ownership, the humane treatment and well-being of dogs, and the rights of dog owners, exhibitors, and responsible breeders.
