In Loving Memory Of Mrs. Anne Katona
We received the very sad news that Anne Katona of Roca, Nebraska passed away on June 14. Anne, a longtime fancier and AKC Judge, was a kind, helpful positive influence to all who had the pleasure of meeting her.
Anne’s family was immersed in the world of Arabian Horses; it was not until 1970 that Anne and her husband, Jack, discovered Anne’s “heart dog,” the Kerry Blue Terrier. Anne and Jack enjoyed great success with their Tyrella Kerry Blues achieving multiple All-Breed and Specialty Best In Show wins across North America.
Anne became an AKC Judge of Kerry Blue Terriers in 1985 and her approval for the remainder of the Terrier Group quickly followed. At this point, Anne retired from actively breeding. She went on to judge five AKC Groups and Best In Show. Anne had the honor of adjudicating Westminster Kennel Club several times, Best In Show at the 2002 Montgomery Kennel Club and prestigious assignments all over the world. For several years, Anne was employed by the American Kennel Club as an Executive Field Representative in the Northern California area. In November 2022, Anne retired from judging with her final Best In Show assignment at Skokie Valley Kennel Club.
Anne was an active participant in many different dog clubs holding a variety of positions. She was a past Chairperson of the Santa Clara Valley Kennel Club, Judge’s Education Chair and AKC Gazette columnist for the United States Kerry Blue Terrier Club, and an active member of DJAA.
Anne served as a mentor to many; all will feel the loss of her kindness, patience, and generosity with her time and knowledge. Anne was known for her cheerful warm demeanor and her signature phrases, “Wiggles are allowed” and “Hi Lollipop!”
The Canine Chronicle extends our deepest condolences to Anne’s husband, Jack, family, friends and all who knew and loved her.
