Dog Show Superintendents Association Holds Annual Meeting
The Dog Show Superintendent’s Association (DSSA) annual meeting was held December 1st, 2020 via Zoom. The following members were present: President Bobby Christiansen, (MB-F Dog Shows); Secretary-Treasurer, Becky Sumner, Sheila Raymond (BaRay Event Services); Tim James, (Onofrio Dog Shows), Ed Smizer and Kristie Shiller (Rau Dog Shows), and Dorie Crowe (MB-F Dog Shows). Glenn Lycan represented the American Kennel Club.
Glenn presented updates on current statistics for AKC dog and litter registrations and conformation entries. New regulation and policy changes were discussed for Rally & Obedience closing date and time and compliance with existing rules for seven-day notification prior to the trial, opening dates and the 72-hour entry acceptance, adherence to rules for publishing premium lists five weeks prior to closing in these uncertain times, and clarification on the recent policy for the use of a club’s name.
In the separate DSSA meeting ongoing challenges in the time of COVID were discussed. The following officers were elected for 2021: President, Bobby Chrstiansen (MB-F), Secretary/Treasurer, Becky Sumner (BaRay Event Services), and Ed Smizer was elected for a new three-year term to the Executive Committee seat expiring in 2023.
Formed in 2002, the Dog Show Superintendents Association represents professional AKC licensed superintendents in all important matters impacting superintendents and the Dog Fancy. The DSSA is a group of Professional Superintendents that represents well over 100 years of experience in providing support services to the AKC, show giving clubs and dog show exhibitors.
