American Kennel Club Honors Connecticut State Senator Clark J. Chapin as AKC Legislator of the Year

New York, NY — The American Kennel Club® (AKC) is pleased to announce that Connecticut State Senator Clark J. Chapin has been named AKC Legislator of the Year for his work protecting Connecticut dog owners from harmful legislation. Senator Chapin will be awarded the James S. Holt Memorial Award for Promotion of Responsible Dog Ownership in Legislation (“Holt” award) at a meeting of the Connecticut Dog Federation this evening.

The Holt award, administered by the AKC Government Relations Department, is a memorial to the late Dr. James S. Holt, who served for 17 years as the AKC’s federal legislative consultant, participated in the sport of purebred dogs for more than 40 years, and served as an AKC Delegate and Board member. The Holt award honors legislators who demonstrate a commitment to promoting responsible dog ownership, the well-being of dogs, and whose actions advance the mission of the American Kennel Club.

Senator Chapin is a ranking member of the Environment Committee, which deals with animal and agriculture-related legislation.

“We appreciate Senator Chapin’s tireless work to promote reasonable legislation that benefits animals and also protects the rights of the owners,” said Sheila Goffe, AKC Director of Government Relations. “We’re pleased to honor him with the Holt award for his efforts in passing enforceable canine legislation.”

Senator Chapin will be presented with the Holt award at the annual meeting of the Connecticut Dog Federation. The CDF consists of approximately thirty-seven dog owner clubs and dog training clubs that work to promote the welfare of dogs and protect and advance the interests of dogs and of people connected with dogs. The meeting will be held this evening at the Silver City Sports Bar & Grill at the Sheraton Four Points Hotel in Meriden, Connecticut. Senator Chapin will speak at 7:00 pm prior to the general meeting.
