Morris Animal Foundation in Collaboration with Blue Buffalo and Pet Valu Canada to Award Canine Cancer Research Grant

In an effort to improve outcomes for dogs with cancer, Morris Animal Foundation, a nonprofit leader in advancing animal health, in collaboration with the Blue Buffalo Company and Pet Valu Canada will award a $52,500 CAD (est. $41,777 USD) grant to a researcher based in Canada studying early detection and/or prevention of canine cancer.

“Cancers continue to take the lives of too many of our dogs, and the sooner we can detect these diseases early or even prevent them the better,” said Dr. Janet Patterson-Kane, Chief Scientific Officer. “We are grateful for the generous funding support of Blue Buffalo Company and Pet Valu, and for their long-term commitment toward fighting pet cancer.”

The Foundation started accepting grant applications on October 6, 2021. The deadline for grant applications is Tuesday, December 14, 2021, 4:59 p.m. ET. Researchers based in Canada are eligible to apply, and the project must be conducted in Canada.

Cancer impacts animals worldwide and is a leading cause of death in dogs over the age of 2. Since 1962, Morris Animal Foundation has funded more than 300 cancer studies, invested nearly $40 million, and continues to make strides against the disease, an effort which includes the generous support of organizations such as Blue Buffalo Company and Pet Valu.

“Blue Buffalo was founded on a promise made to a lovable Airedale named Blue who struggled with cancer, a leading cause of death in dogs,” said Denise DeVeer, Canada National Accounts Manager, Blue Buffalo. “Delivering on that promise continues to be at the heart of what we do every day as we make the best pet food possible for dogs and cats with high-quality, natural ingredients and fund important research to help end the devastating effects of pet cancer.”

“The team of Animal Care Experts at Pet Valu are happy to raise awareness of and support this very meaningful cause, and we are so thankful to the Devoted Pet Lovers who helped us support the fight against pet cancers” added Tanbir Grover, Chief Marketing and Digital Officer, Pet Valu.
