Newfoundland From Blackburn Wins Place In Crufts Best in Show Final

Nana, a Newfoundland from Blackburn, Lancashire won the Working Group title at Crufts 2018 today (Thursday 8th March), qualifying her for a place in the Best in Show final on Sunday.

Nana (whose official Kennel Club name is Newgraden Llori Nanya), aged 3, will return to the Genting Arena at the NEC in Birmingham for a place at the final at the world’s greatest dog show, Crufts, with her owner, Danielle Ball.

People around Britain and the world will be watching to see which dog is crowned Best in Show on Sunday as the final is shown live on Channel 4 and streamed on the official Crufts YouTube Channel - www.youtube.com/crufts.

Almost 21,000 dogs will compete over the four days for one of just seven places in the Crufts final and a chance to win the most celebrated title in the world of dogs.

To make it to this stage of the competition, Nana first won her class, the Good Citizen Dog Scheme Bitch class, then competed against every other bitch who had won their class to be announced Best of Breed.  She then went up against every other Best of Breed in the Working group of dogs, to be named Group winner. It is rare for a dog to win Best in Group having entered a Good Citizen Dog Scheme class, which is a class specifically for dogs who have reached at least bronze level in the Kennel Club’s Good Citizen Dog Training Scheme.

Proud owner Danielle Ball, said: “We’ve been showing Nana since she was old enough and we have had our confidence knocked a few times, but this wipes out all of those bad times. We have been battling for her second Challenge Certificate, which we achieved today at Crufts, and now this. Nana is crackers but she is brilliant and this just has not sunk in yet.”

Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Secretary, said: “We are delighted to see Nana chosen as the Group winner today. Nana and Danielle should be very proud of reaching the prestigious Best in Show final – it’s an incredible achievement and one that not many get to experience in their lifetime.

“Crufts celebrates healthy, happy dogs and recognises the special and unique bond between dogs and their owners. Nana is such an excellent dog who clearly has a great relationship with her owner, and seems very at home in the show ring.

“It’s only day one of four and the final is looking very exciting. We want to wish Nana and Danielle the best of luck in the ring – we are sure that all of Blackburn will be tuning in to Channel 4 to cheer them on.”
