Young Kennel Club Artist Competition Goes Worldwide

The popular Young Kennel Club (YKC) Children’s Art Competition is back and this year’s theme is ‘Dogs on Holiday’.

The competition offers YKC members the opportunity to show off their artistic skills along with their love of dogs. With the ‘Dogs on Holiday’ theme members can let their imaginations run free, painting their dog anywhere in the world.

Where would your dog go on his dream holiday? Would an American Cocker like to visit the Statue of Liberty or perhaps an Australian Shepherd might want to see the Sydney Opera House? And what if the pyramids in Egypt were really made of dog biscuits?

There are three age categories for the competition: 6-11 years, 12-16 years and 17-24 years. A winner and runners up for each category will be chosen, plus an overall winner.

All age group winning images will be on display at the world’s greatest dog show, Crufts, and the winners will each receive a bumper artist’s gift set. The overall winner will also receive a year’s free YKC membership and a family ticket to Crufts to see their picture on display.

The annual Children’s Art Competition is now in its sixth year and the YKC team never fails to be impressed by the calibre of entries. Lucy Smith, YKC Manager said: “This competition is a highlight of my year. Our members are obviously talented when it comes to dog handling, agility, obedience and other activities, but I never cease to be amazed at the artistic abilities our members have.

“Millie Clark, the overall winner of last year’s competition, submitted a fantastic image of her and her brother walking their dogs and I am sure she will go on to do wonderful things. I am really looking forward to see what this year’s competition will bring.”
