Kennel Club Launches Seminars For National Education And Training Month

The Kennel Club has announced the programme of seminars being held as part of this year’s Education and Training Month, which takes place during November.

The seminars are aimed at a variety of people, including prospective and existing judges and club/show officials, and anyone interested in being more involved in the dog world who would like to further their knowledge.

The seminar dates and details are as follows:

1.    Show Management Seminar

This one-day seminar is primarily aimed at those who will have a role to play in the organisation of Kennel Club registered societies shows and events.  Delegates may include those elected as show officials of breed club shows.

The main focus is on show planning and administration, covering the sequence of events required from 18 months prior to the show, requirements at the show and the requirements following the show.

23rd November – Wood Green, The Animals Charity, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire

30th November – Grappenhall Community Centre, Warrington, Cheshire

2.    Requirements of a Dog Show Judge

This one-day seminar will provide delegates with the essential knowledge and understanding of the Kennel Club Rules and Regulations, and the requirements for judging.

It is aimed at all those involved in exhibiting and judging, and in particular those who aspire to award Challenge Certificates.  An examination paper on Regulations and Judging Procedures follows this seminar for those wishing to award CCs. Successful candidates will receive a certificate which is required to be produced alongside the questionnaire for a proposed Championship Show Judge (both UK and overseas).

3.    Points of the Dog Assessment

The aim of this assessment is to ensure that candidates understand how to ‘go over’ a dog, and ensures that they are able to correctly indicate and identify the relevant points, angulation or structural balance and conventional measurements of the dog.

22nd November – Guide Dog Training School, Leamington Spa, Warwickshire

23rd November – IABTC, Doncaster, South Yorkshire

4.    Conformation and Movement Seminar

This seminar aims to ensure that candidates gain a greater understanding of  conformation and movement of the dog, ensuring that soundness and movement faults of the dog can be correctly accessed and identified.

Dates and venues:

22nd November – Guide Dog Training School, Leamington Spa, Warwickshire

23rd November – IABTC, Doncaster, South Yorkshire

5.    Ring Stewarding Seminar

This seminar offers delegates information on the duties and responsibilities of ring stewards at Kennel Club licensed events, and of Kennel Club Rules and Regulations. Delegates will gain practical tips from those who have a wide experience of stewarding.

23rd November – Guide Dog Training School, Leamington Spa, Warwickshire

6.    Managing a Dog Club

Delegates will gain a better understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the Kennel Club, members of the society, committee and the general public. The seminar will also look at how to define the procedure for meetings, managing finance and insurance for societies, how to best manage conflict and ways of retaining and increasing membership.

Dates and venues:

16th November – Grappenhall Community Centre, Warrington, Cheshire

The seminars cost between £15 and £25 per person, which includes morning and afternoon refreshments, a buffet lunch and a delegate pack.
