Kennel Club Helps Kent Canines At Dedicated Dog Day

The Kennel Club spent a day engaging with local dog owners last week as it attended a responsible dog ownership event in Strood, Kent, held by Medway Council.

The Kennel Club Public Affairs team gave out freebies and offered Strood’s dog owners advice and guidance on picking up after dogs, the benefits of identification such as microchipping and dog tags, the importance of training and socialisation, the dangers of leaving dogs in cars, and a variety of dog walkers’ rights issues.

Also on hand on the day were the PDSA, who were offering free veterinary ‘MOTs’ to local dogs, a canine behaviourist and dog trainer offering advice to dog owners, a free microchipping service, and an agility course designed for dogs and their owners to try out the popular dog sport.

Denisa Delic, Kennel Club Public Affairs Officer, who attended the event, said: “Medway Council’s responsible dog ownership day was a great opportunity to engage with local dog owners and to offer tips and advice on how to be the best owners they can be.

“The weather was fantastic, which brought out lots of Strood’s dog lovers, and we enjoyed meeting some of the lovely local dogs.

“Throughout the summer, the Kennel Club will be involved in a number of these types of events to promote responsible ownership, and we would definitely recommend anyone who owns a dog or is thinking of buying or rescuing a dog, to come along for a chat if we are in your area!”

The Kennel Club, which campaigns to promote responsible dog ownership, is offering local councils a helping hand in holding these relaxed and enjoyable days, and will be attending as many of them as possible to chat to people about all aspects of responsible dog ownership.

Local authorities which wish to organise their own community engagement days to promote responsible dog ownership with the help of the Kennel Club should contact Denisa Delic, Kennel Club Public Affairs Officer, on 020 7518 1020, or email denisa.delic@thekennelclub.org.uk for further information.
