Table Talk – January 30, 2019

For those of you driving to Westminster who normally park on the roof of Pier 92, that parking facility will not be available this year. It is under repair after a cruise ship hit the structure earlier in the year.  Here are a few parking alternatives with contact information for folks looking to park their vehicles during Westminster:

In years past, many fanciers have headed to Atlanta, Georgia for the four-day Cherokee Rose Cluster.  Unfortunately, the clubs have parted ways and that separation combined with the Super Bowl being in town during the same weekend as the cluster has necessitated a change in dates for the remaining two clubs.  This year, the re-configured Cherokee Rose Cluster will be held in August.  Beginning in 2020 there will be a four-day cluster held in February.

Looking at the photographs from last weekend’s Golden Gate Kennel Club–the benched show at the Cow Palace in Northern California–reminds me of the work that I used to do for the International Kennel Club of Chicago (IKC).  Sadly, the IKC as we once knew it is no more and another benched show is gone, but certainly not forgotten. In my humble opinion, benched shows are an excellent vehicle to educate the general public about our sport while also assisting individuals looking for a family companion to make an educated choice for a pet.  Congratulations to the Golden Gate Kennel Club for maintaining this important event and doing a terrific job!

Vicki Seiler-Cushman is back from enjoying a wonderful mother-daughter trip to Key West, Florida. Welcome home, my friend!  It looks like you girls had a fabulous trip!

I hear Ray Harrington is recovering from gallbladder surgery.  We look forward to seeing you out and about soon Ray!

Curtiss Smith had an unexpected trip to the hospital to have his appendix removed. I am happy to report that he is out of surgery and recovering well.  Get well soon, my friend!

I am told that Kathy Ferris is caring for Marlene Steinberg’s two miniature poodles until a good home can be found for them.  Marlene’s sister-in-law was unable to care for the dogs, so Kathy kindly stepped up and made sure these two dogs have a loving, caring home during the search for their forever family.

It was terrific to see that Gwen DeMilta is back in the ring running left handed circles with a big smile on her face.  Welcome back, Gwen!  We are all thrilled that you are doing well.

Connie Gerstner Miller took a trip to visit Cheri Schmitz and have lunch with her.  Connie reports that Cheri is doing well and she truly enjoys hearing from her dog family.  If you would like to contact her, you can reach out to Connie via Facebook Messenger and she will put you in touch with Cheri.

The members of the Golden Gate Kennel Club helped Jean Bobbitt celebrate her 100th birthday at last week’s show.  Jean is doing remarkably well and she is an inspiration to us all!

Also celebrating birthdays this week are:  Kathryn Mills, who is turning 89 years young; Marcelo Veras (congratulations on your citizenship, my friend!); David Cook, Kellye Riani, Julia Kinsey, Sharon Carvalho, and Gina Weiser.

Stay warm, my friends! Please remember to be kind to your fellow competitors, and welcome those that are joining us for the first time.  Also, be safe in your travels.

Until next time….
