Remembering Nancy Smith

Nancy Shaffer Smith died on August 13th as a result of an RV rollover accident near Livingston, Montana.  She was an internationally recognized breeder of Old English Sheepdogs and Pembroke Welsh Corgis under the “Pinafore” prefix.  Nancy judged the Herding Group internationally and many Sporting breeds as well.  During her years of service to the OES Club of America she was on the Board of Directors in several offices and was Chair of the Judges Education Committee, always generously giving back to the sport and the two breeds she was most passionate about and sharing her knowledge and experience.

Her involvement in the dog show world provided her and her family great joy, as well as over 40 years of beloved human and canine friends. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Amy and Kent Brown, beloved grandchildren Jared and Jessica Brown, all of Wichita, KS as well as special friends Jennifer and Mark DeVol of Sierra Vista, AZ. She will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.

When the accident happened, Nancy was traveling with six of her Corgis.  Five in crates were unhurt.  Sadly the one uncrated did not survive.  Immediate care to the five survivors was provided by Stafford Animal Shelter in Livingston, MT (www.staffordanimalshelter.org) .  Contributions in her memory may be made to the Shelter or to Yellowstone Wildlife Sanctuary (www.yellowstonewildlifesanctuary.com) in Red Lodge, Montana where Nancy was a volunteer, or Lutheran Charities K-9 Comfort Care (www.LutheranChurchCharities.com) which includes dogs to comfort those in need.  All of these organizations reflect Nancy’s lifelong love of all animals and her devotion to sharing that love with all.
