Different international judges chose the best dog breed at the World Dog Show 2015, the most prestigious and awaited worldwide dog show organized by ENCI (Ente Nazionale della Cinofilia Italiana). After 15 years the event returned to Milan with more than 29,000 dogs: over 8,000 from Italy, 1,700 from France and almost 1,500 dogs from Russia.

Lady Godiva dei Raggi di Luna, an Italian Greyhound, coming from Lombardy, was judged the best Italian dog in the world. Roberto Maroni, the President of the Lombardy Government, presented the award to its owner.

In the afternoon, the show in the Main Ring was an unforgettable experience with the competition among Junior Handler finalists – young dog handlers between 6 and 17 years that are distributed into two categories.

The exhibition of Kataklò, a dancing and acting company composed by Olympic-level athletes, was spectacular. Their dancers performed extraordinary choreographies under the watchful eyes of many excited viewers. It was an inspiring experience balancing between dance, sport and poetry.

Moving and touching also the passing over of the FCI (Fèdèration cynologique international) flag from the President of ENCI to the President of Russian Kennel Federation, that will host the next World Dog Show in Moscow in 2016.

“Exhibitors and visitors gave us lots approvals for the high technical level and for the organization, that has allowed to offer a friendly atmosphere”; said Dino Muto, The President of ENCI. “I would like to thank the Fédération Cynologique Internationale and, in particular, Rafael de Santiago for believing in us and for supporting us on this experience – he continued – Years of efforts have been gratefully rewarded, so I would like to thank the Board of Directors of ENCI for trusting me, and all staff with whom I shared every steps of this unforgettable world show. I hope that it will be returned in Milan before the fifteen years. Special thanks to the main sponsor Royal Canin for its cooperation”.

The General Director of Royal Canin Italy, Giorgio Massoni, said “We are very pleased to have sponsored the WDS 2015. It was an important opportunity to meet and talk with thousand fans and owners of dogs (and even cats ), that was one of the main reasons of satisfaction. It was also an opportunity to share our technical and scientific know-how, to spread the meaning of respecting animal needs and to promote sports as Agility, that we consider a great way to make the relationship handler-dog closer”.

Among the 340 breeds exhibited at the WDS 2015, the most popular are German Shepherd, Golden Retriever, Labrador retriever, Jack russel, Chihuahua and Cavalier King Charles spaniel. Instead, the most special are Podengo Portuguese, Finnish spitz, Hound of Ariége and Sheepdog Majorcan. Among breeds that are waiting to be recognized, the most awaited was The Dog of Fonni, an old Italian breed that has always been used by shepherds as sheepdog and property guardian. The name originates from the homonymous Sardinian city in the mountain at 1000 meters above sea level.
