Rebecca Ann Gerevics Receives 2014 AKC/AVMA Veterinary Scholarship

The American Kennel Club® (AKC®) is pleased to announce that Rebecca Ann Gerevics, a second-year student at the College of Veterinary Medicine at The Ohio State University, is the recipient of the 2014 AKC/American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Veterinary Scholarship. First offered in 2009, this $5,000 scholarship is designed to support individuals with a background in AKC events and programs who seek to promote animal health and medicine.

“Rebecca is sincerely focused on the health of her breed, the Golden Retriever, along with all dogs, and is a highly engaged member of the AKC community, participating in agility, hunt training, health clinics and the Canine Good Citizen program. We’re pleased to award her this scholarship as she works to complete her veterinary studies,” said Mari Beth O’Neill, AVP Sport Services and AKC’s liaison to the American Veterinary Medical Association.

Gerevics was introduced to purebred dogs at a young age by her mother, a Golden Retriever breeder and AKC Breeder of Merit program participant. She learned the importance of breeding dogs that have had proper health testing as recommended by the AKC Parent Club. Her exposure to responsible breeding has inspired interest in cancer and cardiology research.

“I am extremely excited and beyond grateful for the opportunity to represent an organization that has already had such an impact on my training, and to continue my career in alignment with the AKC,” said Gerevics.
