Rescued Puppies in Gambling Haven Steal Hearts

LAS VEGAS — Las Vegas enjoys its reputation as a Sybaritic town, with its heady blend of sparkle, sex and money. It celebrates its history of organized crime with a Mob Museum championed by a former mayor.

But lately, Sin City has been transfixed by puppies — 27 of them, all tail-wagging survivors of a fire that the police call arson.

Their story began on Jan. 27, when flames broke out at Prince & Princess, an upscale pet store. Security video showed a woman letting a man in through the back door; he splashed a liquid from two gas cans around the shop, even into the cages, and ignited newspapers. The sprinkler system doused the fire, and firefighters rescued the dogs.
