Beat The Heat With A Variety of Dog Cool Coats

Although it may be difficult to completely escape the heat when showing at summer dog shows, it is safest to be fully prepared with items to make your dog as comfortable as possible. Items that can be handy ringside include a cooler full of ice, a spray bottle of water, a fan and a dog cool coat of your choice. Dog cool coats come in a wide variety of designs and patterns, from the most simple to the most outrageous. Also, many distributors custom make dog cool coats to the exact size of your dog and therefore can custom design the color and print of the cool coat. Here are a few of my favorite cool coats, starting with a classic shammy to help keep dogs cool.

Classic Shammy by Planet Dog on Amazon. This shammy is made of chamois.

The TechKewl Phase Change Cooling Coat on Amazon. This cool coat cools the dog with cooling packs inside the coat, which are non toxic and cool without ice burns or condensation from the cooling pack. It is available in three sizes and two colors.

The Chillow Comfort Device by Soothsoft on Amazon. Although not a standard dog cool coat, this cooling device can be used with no refrigeration or other cooling techniques. It can be stored in a hot area and still be extremely cool to the touch. It is perfect for toy dogs to stand on ringside.

For the ultimate creativity in choosing the material, pattern, and trim, those with a knack for sewing can create their own canine cool coat. Popular fabrics for cool coats include polyester mesh and synthetic chamois. Kwik-Sew has a sewing pattern available online for a dog cool coat. It is available online at Vogue Fabric Store here.
