Morris Animal Foundation Announces Rolling RFPs for Golden Retriever Lifetime Study
To help dogs everywhere live longer, healthier lives, Morris Animal Foundation is announcing a rolling request for proposals for its Golden Retriever Lifetime Study. These projects will contribute to the understanding of nutritional, environmental, lifestyle and genetic risk factors for cancer and other diseases in dogs.
This call is for access to samples, with the goal of generating findings relevant to the key aims of the Golden Retriever Lifetime Study and to informing future canine health studies. Please note that this call does not include funding.
Interested researchers must first fill out a Project Inquiry form, from the Foundation’s website, with a brief overview of their proposal. A Foundation representative will then contact the applicant for more detailed information and to specify what specimens the researcher would like to study. If the Foundation decides to move forward, it will send the researcher a link to an online application to submit their full proposal.
The Foundation’s Golden Retriever Lifetime Study is a groundbreaking, longitudinal study comprised of owner- and veterinarian-reported data as well as biological samples, including serum, whole blood, DNA, urine, hair and toenails, collected annually from a cohort of privately owned dogs living throughout the lower 48 United States.
The primary goal of the Study is to identify the incidence of, and risk factors for, osteosarcoma, hemangiosarcoma, lymphoma and high-grade mast cell tumors. Secondary goals include studies of all other cancers and common major diseases, such as hypothyroidism, epilepsy, allergy disorders, hip dysplasia, congestive heart failure and renal failure. The Foundation is particularly interested in collaborative projects that leverage the longitudinal study design.
