Arapahoe Kennel Club Recap

Arapahoe Kennel Club 2012 Dog Show

by Jan Leonard

This year our 2012 Arapahoe Kennel Club Show had close to 1,000 dogs competing daily in breed Conformation, with some dogs also competing in Rally and Obedience, as well as Junior Showmanship.

The show opened with the Rocky Mountain Mastiff Fanciers celebrating their 30th Anniversary by holding their 1st Independent Specialty on Friday, and supported entries on both Saturday and Sunday.

Judges were brought in from across the country (and some from Canada), and there were also dogs from throughout the United States here as well.

Participants popped up their tents at the Arapahoe County Fairground’s nice green grass, and were blessed with beautiful Colorado weather, with the backdrop of the Rocky Mountains to the west, and the country prairie to the east.

According to club Vice President Cindy Knox, “The show improves each year, and that is in part to our hard working group of kennel club members and volunteers”.

The club invited around 50 Girl Scouts to come to earn their Girl Scouts “Going To The Dogs – Dog Show Fun & Facts” patch. The program developer, Arapahoe Kennel Club Member, Marlene Groves, stated, “The program is very beneficial in sharing information on pure bred dogs and dog showing; but moreover, it’s just plain fun!”

To all our prestigious winners; Well Done!
